Audi Nero
(Jess Harder and Raul Cenan, Volkswagen/Audi Design Center)
The Nero is claimed to be a "modern interpretation" of the Auto Union racers of the 30s, with its streamlined exterior and covered wheels.
Finished in carbon black with a translucent bonnet to show off its powerful engine, it's also, apparently, "the supreme expression of Los Angeles nightlife".

GMC PAD
(Steve Anderson, Senon B. Franco III, Jay Bernard, Phil Tanioka, Sidney Levy, Brian Horton, Alessandro Zezza, Christine Ebner, Frank Saucedo, General Motors West Coast Advanced Design Studio)
A bit of a cynical take on the LA lifestyle, this one: it's for people priced out of the housing market. No ordinary camper van, though - it has all the latest telecommunications and entertainment gadgets, and is described as "an urban loft with unlimited mobility."
It's also a mobile office. Should you need to move that meeting, the PAD has a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain - which also serves as a generator for on-board power for day-by-day living activities when parked up.
"With the GMC PAD, home is where you want it", say its designers. "And commuting is what other people do."
