Feature: KWE Re-manufactured Jaguar XJ

Grille

The last real Jaguar
Jaded by the uniformity of modern cars
XJ - a world beater
Low-slung four-door sportscar
Wafty, effortless and unflustered
For most of us the daydream ends right there. Chris Knowles set up KWE in 2002 to cater for a minority of people who want to explore the possibilities of owning a classic XJ6 or XJ12 further, not just as a weekend toy but as a working, usable business and family car. If you want to break free from euro-blob world and have become jaded by the uniformity of modern cars, where the driving experience has become insulated by software-driven gadgets, a KWE Jaguar could well be the answer.

Side view
It's not just a nicely restored old Jag, says Chris, but a re-manufactured Jaguar. "The word 'Restoration' makes you think of costs spiralling out of control and a project that takes years to complete. We wanted a fixed price with a price list and delivery in 30 days. We are trying to make it easy for a new car buyer to buy one of these instead."

Boot
KWE keep the prices reasonable and timescales moderate by using a medium-scale batch process and a network of sub contractors. The base cars are quality examples usually sourced from private owners, which are then striped and rebuilt as new to customer requirements; the 'base' model is the 210bhp K1 XJ6 with a straight-six 4.2-litre engine; the ultimate version is the 350bhp K3 XJ12 with sports handling pack.
