Motor Show: Porsche 911 GT3

01 Mar 06

The Porsche 911 GT3, developed as a dual-purpose road and track vehicle, develops 415bhp from its 3.6-litre flat-six engine, with power peaking at 7,600rpm; its redline is at 8,400rpm, 200rpm higher than in the outgoing model. The six-speed transmission has been revised, with lower ratios for the second and sixth gears, and a larger throttle valve and revised cylinder heads fitted. All this leads to acceleration 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds, 0-100mph in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 194 mph.

Further new features for the 997-series GT3 are a change-up display on the rev counter indicating the best time to change gears, the Porsche Active Suspension Management two-mode chassis system and a traction control system developed from that of the Carrera GT. This can be switched off if required. Standard kit also includes a mechanical limited-slip differential.

It goes on sale in the UK at the end of August with a price tag from £79,540.
