The Murcielago LP640 has a reworked engine, suspension, gearbox and brakes to make performance ever stronger and has also received minor styling modifications inside and out.
The standard 6.2 V12 (580bhp) has been enlarged to 6.5 litres and power output upped to 640bhp; 0-60mph acceleration now comes up in 3.4 seconds. The crankshaft, camshafts, exhausts, valve timing and electronic drive-by-wire throttle have all been modified, and air intakes and oil radiator enlarged. The six-speed gearbox has been revised, with new axle shafts and a stronger rear differential fitted. The transmission now incorporates a launch control mode for a rapid standing start, simply called Thrust. New springs, stabilisers and dampers make up the suspension, and unique 18" alloys are fitted. Ceramic-composite brake discs are optional.
The LP640 can be distinguished from lesser Lambos by new front and rear bumpers, exhaust outlets incorporated into the rear diffuser and new rear lights; a transparent glass engine cover can also be specified. There are new windscreen wipers and rear-view mirrors, all more aerodynamic, and, on the inside, the LP640 features new leather upholstery and reworked graphics for its instrument panel. The seats' head restraints have been revised, and the diamond-pattered upholstery stitching is repeated on the door trim, roof panel and padding over the engine compartment. A new Kenwood audio system with DVD and MP3 players and 6.5" monitor screen is added; satellite navigation is optional.
Prices are expected to start from around £185,000, with numerous bespoke-fit options, accessories and trimmings likely to increase the price tag beyond the £200,000 mark.
