Opel GT
Opel's all-new GT roadster is the European-market version of the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice and the replacement for the Speedster (Vauxhall VX200).
With the four-cylinder, direct-injection 2.0-litre Ecotec turbo engine (260bhp) and rear-wheel drive, Opel claims a top speed of over 140mph and 0-60mph in less than six seconds.
The GT has a folding fabric roof that tucks away under a tonneau cover. Though said to be inspired by the original Opel GT coupe - itself influenced by the American muscle cars of the late 60s - its styling also pays tribute to the Vauxhall VX Lightning concept car created by Vauxhall's design team in Birmingham.
However, it will not be offered as a Vauxhall in right-hand-drive; it is to be built alongside the Sky and Pontiac Solstice in Wilmington, Delaware. Sales start in spring 2007, with UK buyers able to order a left-hand-drive Opel via Vauxhall dealers.
