Motor Show: Audi RS4 Cabriolet

01 Mar 06

Audi's RS4 cabriolet is a super-quick drop-top, sharing the 420bhp V8 engine as used in the RS4 saloon and Avant estate, with its direct-injection technology and ability to rev up to 8,250rpm. It's good for acceleration 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds, though top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.

The RS4 models can be distinguished from lesser A4 variants by their additional air inlets, rhombus-patterned grilles, unique alloy wheels, flared wheel arches and side sills, twin oval exhaust tailpipes plus RS4 badging; suspension is lowered by 30mm.

As in the RS4 saloon and Avant, brakes have been uprated, the ESP (electronic stability programme) modified and steering tuned.

Although some carbon fibre and aluminium components are fitted to save weight, the cabriolet still has a high level of standard equipment, with air conditioning, top-spec sound system, xenon headlamps, parking sensors, electric windows and powered hood. Kit also includes a lap timer and dynamic ride control to reduce body roll and pitch. The cabriolet has sports seats rather than full-on buckets as standard, however, though the bucket seats are available as an option. 18" aluminium wheels are fitted, with the option of a 19" double-spoke design.

Prices will be announced later this summer.
