New York isn't a 'car city', as such: many Manhattanites rely on public transport and taxis, and those that do own cars tend to go for much smaller, more economical models than the majority of Americans and residents of the US heartland. Cars like the latest MINI have been a huge hit in the capital, and huge, lumbering SUVs are relatively rare - parking is a massive issue in the city, even if you're not concerned about fuel economy. Still, the New York Auto Show is another opportunity for manufacturers to unveil their latest products to the press and public, and whilst in previous years the NY show has been dominated by tiddlers, this year large SUVs, 4x4s and crossovers - and high-powered performance cars - are staging a defiant comeback.
