It was the usual Luca and Sergio show, with Ferrari (and now Fiat) chief Luca di Montezemolo and Sergio Pininfarina announcing the new F430 Spider. This 490bhp supercar has spent much time in Ferrari's Formula One wind tunnel, just like its berlinetta sister, and has a hood sufficiently compact to let the V8 engine stay visible even when the hood is lowered. 4Car drives it next week.
Meanwhile, over at Maserati, new CEO Karl-Heinz Kalbfell got a welcome surprise when Pininfarina's Maserati Birdcage concept car, inspired by the famous Birdcage racing sports cars of the 1950s, was voted 'car of the show'. By whom, we are not quite sure.
