Motor Show: Nissan Navara

02 Mar 05

On the Nissan stand alongside the Zaroot concept car was the new Nissan Navara, based on the Pathfinder, which will go on sale in September 2005. It will be built alongside the Pathfinder in Nissan's Barcelona factory and will feature the same 2.5-litre diesel engine. The engine produces 171bhp and 297 lb ft of torque and will make the Navara the most powerful double-cab pickup on sale in the UK (excluding imported Ford F150s and Dodge Rams).

Specification levels will be high with the interior lifted from the Pathfinder, so leather seats, sat-nav, air-con and Bluetooth functionality will feature on range-topping models. The Navara will also have the option of automatic transmission, first for a pick-up in the UK. The load bay will feature a patented system of lashing points and rails as found in the American-only Titan pickup.

The new Navara will only be offered in double-cab form, although Nissan will continue to offer the existing Navara in single-cab form only, to cater for those buyers who just want a workhorse to carry huge payloads. Prices are expected to carry a premium of at least £1000 over current Navaras, but specification levels are improved over the current model.
