Citroen's most famous car is the revolutionary 2CV, one of the cars that mobilised the masses in the difficult years after World War Two. Today, the bulk of Citroen sales are also accounted for by small, affordable models: the C2, C3 and now the tiny C1 are following the precedent set by the Saxo, AX and Visa before them, offering accessible, economical motoring.
Yet, with the new C6, Citroen is re-entering the competitive and hugely image-conscious executive/luxury car market, for the first time since the demise of the controversial XM.
We take a look back at Citroen's previous range-toppers - cars very different from the 2CV.
