Subaru Impreza 2.5 Turbo WRX
It doesn't look too ugly any more... Primarily, the latest Impreza is thrilling to drive, with a excellent four-wheel-drive system and uprated suspension so it corners brilliantly. Fantastic value for money considering its performance potential.
There is the sexier Mitsubishi Evo IX, of course, but it's soon to be superceded. Anyway, the Impreza is much cheaper, both to buy and run.
Don't clean the Impreza too often and work colleagues might think you do the odd rally stage at the weekend. Has the requisite body kit additions to make you feel down with the kids.
The basic WRX is plenty fast enough, so there's no need to pay £6,000 more for a STi - save your money and reduce your tax liability. The standard kit level is very good: you could pay out for leather and a sunroof, but both are pretty pointless.
The interior is well laid out and comfy, it rides well for such a sports-focused model and with four-door practicality, you could even take out your clients.
