Mercedes-Benz CLK 220 CDI
It's refined, fast (depending on which engine you choose) and it makes financial sense if you burn oil. Yes, here is proof that a diesel coupe really does work; the CLK 220's punchy engine delivers over 40 mpg.
The usual suspects include the Peugeot 407 Coupe, BMW 3-Series, Audi TT and even the Chrysler Crossfire. Going out on a limb, there's the new Alfa Romeo Brera, which even comes with a JTD diesel engine.
Are you the financial controller? As coupes go, they don't get much more sensible than a CLK, or as respectably stylish.
The 220CDI comes out at just 20% tax liability; the significantly quicker 320CDI is rated at 26%. The 220CDI also returns a strong 60% at resale time, which helps to keep leasing costs very reasonable.
There is tons of room inside a CLK and although pricey, its cruise control, climate control, four electric windows and power-folding hood all make it a pleasure to live with.
