In fact I think the real problem is not the car, which I ended up becoming seriously attached to, but its price. I just cannot see that it's worth more than a Boxster with the same engine. It will handle a smidge better and hold a lot more luggage but what is this compared to the joys of convertible motoring? It's not as if the Cayman gives you extra rear seats.
But let's say you are a die-hard driving purist and are interested not in a suntan but the ultimate driving experience: for you the Cayman is always going to be compromised because you have to drive it so damn fast before it truly comes alive. A Cayman S is a lot more expensive at £44,080, but at least you can put your foot down on the smallest straight and be guaranteed an epic response.
In either case, I find myself unable to avoid the conclusion that whether you saved yourself the money and got a Boxster, or pushed the boat out and went for a Cayman S, the end result would be better value and more rewarding than this.
