Driven: Nissan Titan

The Titan is a king-cab model, which means that its rear doors open backwards like a Mazda RX-8's. It seats five, but the three in the back are squashed in, due to the huge armchairs for the two up front. There are plenty of cupholders for your 16oz Slurpies and the two gloveboxes will swallow objects as large as laptops.

Nissan calls those B-pillarless doors 'Wide-Open' - 'suicide doors' wouldn't go down too well in litigious America. Removing the middle strut makes getting into the back easier. The downside is that when you slam the front door shut, you get some wobble through the side of the car. And even though this is a Nissan, whose cars typically fare well in terms of perceived cabin quality, the dash is formed from hard plastic and there are some rough edges around panel joins. Still, firing up that big V8 soon dispels the annoyance of these niggles and the lack of rear space.
