It really is the no-brainer buy for the family that wants space, quality and value. The Octavia does everything right: really nice to drive, cheap to run, with bags of space for luggage in the huge boot, and people front and rear. Best of all, it's great value.
Overall the Skoda has been very reliable in service, although as the miles build up there are some electrical niggles and brake overhaul issues - although a well-serviced example won't have much to report.
You can find Octavias at auction, where they can be very cheap, provided they are straight off company fleets with all paperwork. Otherwise, most are in the classified ads and at independent dealers, making a better value alternative to the VW Golf it is based on.
