We are assuming here that you don't want to pose and actually want to do some work and, when you do, it has to be a Hilux. When it comes to tough you won't find tougher and has an international reputation for dependability. If there isn't enough room in the single or double cab, make your mates sit on the rear deck like the Mujahadeen.
Not a lot really. The tough old diesel unit should not be too oily and puff blue smoke under load when you accelerate up a hill. Cracked cylinder heads have blighted Toyota engines in the past. At large mileages the suspension bushes and shock absorbers may need replacing.
You won't find them on Toyota dealer forecourts. Most are in the classifieds or imported from Japan by specialist dealers. Indeed, it is easier to say where not to buy them - and that means avoiding builders/farmers who have tested them to destruction.
