Not the best Jag ever, but currently the best value. If you promised yourself a Jaguar then you can buy one with the smoothest engines and a traditional wood and leather interior. Diesels are pricey, so aim for petrol power.
Engines needed a major overhaul at early miles, but most have been fixed under warranty. Gearbox wear and plenty of electrical niggles relating to air conditioning and central locking, but, ideally, previous owners should have sorted those out for you. Revised model from 2002.
There are plenty of private ones in the classified ads, but in varying conditions and at high miles - although prices are temptingly low. The best ones are at Jaguar dealer - but also check the independent garages, which have more realistic prices than private sellers.
