There were a surprising number of breakdowns early on, when the VW group had faulty coil packs that left cars stranded. There can still be some engine management nags and the automatic gearbox is not always the smoothest.
High-mileage examples can be found at auctions and car supermarkets, as it's very pricey at Audi dealers. Buy clean one-owner examples from small independent specialists.
