It's virtually an institution. Prehistoric, but it still cuts it as a no-nonsense, cheap-to-keep station-run special. Parts are low-priced and so is insurance. Huge fun to drive, while a lack of luggage space is largely irrelevant to the average buyer. Still a practical and characterful proposition.
Rust. Rot gets hold of all Minis in the end and some early 90s cars are now unroadworthy. The small engine has to work hard and some owners never change oil, or do much in the way of servicing, so don't shirk from giving any prospective buy a thorough examination and test drive.
From a private owner who loved their Mini. Virtually ignored by the car trade now unless it has a Cooper badge, so dealers who have them sell very cheaply and may have an unwanted part-exchange. Try Mini specialists for the best-prepared examples.
