Based on the latest Land Rover Discovery rather than the Range Rover that lends it its name, the Range Rover Sport is not quite as sporting to drive as the other two cars listed here, but is still quite a competent machine on the road given its girth, and a quick, powerful one, too.
However, that power combined with its weight provides the downside to Range Rover Sport ownership - a claimed combined fuel consumption of just 17.8mpg, which will be even worse in the real world.
To be fair, though, the other two contenders here, when equipped with petrol V8s, manage only slightly better figures. Of the three cars listed here, though, the Range Rover Sport feels and looks the most special and is undoubtedly the off-road king, while its interior quality is also exceptional and its refinement first-rate.
