The Passat is larger, better to drive and built with a higher-quality feel than the car it replaced. The styling, while quite evolutionary, is gently sculpted and easy on the eye. This really does feel like a more upmarket car, with soft-touch materials throughout the cabin and some delightful features, such as an umbrella holder built into the driver's door, air-conditioned glovebox and dual-visor sunshades.
And because the new Passat is no heavier than the old one, it's even more frugal with the latest range of VW petrol and diesel engines.
