The latest in Nissan's increasingly large range of off-roaders, the Pathfinder also happens to be its best. The 2.5-litre turbodiesel's not a bad engine, powerful enough for easy towing, if a little noisy. Capable of seating seven, the Pathfinder's a versatile car too, and, despite its chunky appearance, doesn't take up any more road space than a large MPV or executive car. It's also well priced. Downsides? Ride comfort is harsh on poor surfaces, and that gruff engine note.
