Although as a sports car the RX-8 can't quite match the 350Z, it has an excellent range of abilities that recommend it. For a start, there's that unusual rotary engine with its intriguing, turbine-like power delivery. There is a caveat here, though, as the engine consumes oil and has higher than average emissions and fuel consumption. The gearbox is a slick-shifting unit and the RX-8 rides comfortably, though the dynamic experience isn't as sporty and composed as the 350's.
Unlike the Z, though, the RX has four seats. The rear ones aren't huge, but adults will find them acceptable for short journeys and the rear-hinged doors offer good access. Best of all, the RX-8 is well-priced, although we'd recommend paying extra for the more powerful version.
