Like all Volvos, the XC70 comes packed with latest safety features, including the unique WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System) and SIPS (Side Impact Protection System), in addition to five three-point seatbelts, twin-front and side airbags, and an Inflatable Curtain (IC) airbag. Recently, Volvo also introduced WRG (Water Repellent Glass) for door mirrors and, optionally, for laminated side windows.

Helping the company to decide what safety features to develop and fit to Volvo models, the Volvo Accident Research Team has studied more than 30,000 real-life accidents involving Volvos. The results of these analyses in the past helped Volvo to develop SIPS and WHIPS, while the findings were some of the driving forces behind the development of BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) and WRG technology.
