Volvo's commitment to the environment is enviable and the relative environmental cleanliness of the V70 is evident from the very beginning of the car's life. The V70 is built in Volvo's Torslanda plant in Sweden, which is one of the world's cleanest factories: solvent emissions at the plant have been reduced by 90 percent since 1972. Moreover, 85 percent of each V70 is entirely recyclable, and several V70 engines meet strict ULEV (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle) emissions standards.
Volvo's 'clean inside and out' programme takes this solid foundation and moves it forwards. All V70s have an air filter that prevents dust, pollen and exhaust particles from reaching the interior, while the cabin itself is constructed under Volvo's Interior Air Quality System guidelines. This means that all trim materials comply with Oeko-Tex standards, and do not emit harmful solvents or other emissions. Volvo's PremAir system, available on some models, can convert 75 percent of ground level ozone passing through the radiator into oxygen.
The environmental impact of every new Volvo is backed by an environmental declaration that has been verified by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Limited (LQRA) of London; the report is available for viewing online at www.volvocars.com/citizenship.
