The all-new Volvo C70, a convertible that doubles as a coupe, will make its world debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Featuring a unique, three-piece retractable hardtop, drivers of the new C70 will be able to enjoy life without compromise, whatever the weather.
Developed in conjunction with the renowned Italian design company Pininfarina the new C70, like its predecessor, will be built in Uddevalla, Sweden. Approximately the same size as the previous C70, the new car remains a full four-seater, while its advanced body structure and exceptional torsional rigidity help set new standards of safety in the convertible market.
Unique safety innovations also include a new style of inflatable curtain (IC), part of the C70's enhanced Side Impact Protection System (SIPS). Because the IC cannot be fitted into the roof like in a fixed-head car, it inflates upwards rather than downwards. It's also extra-stiff to help protect the head more effectively, and deflates more slowly than usual to provide additional protection if the car rolls over. Meanwhile, the C70's high level of torsional rigidity not only contributes towards its high level of safety, it also makes the car more dynamic and fun to drive.
In the UK, the C70 will initially be offered with two five-cylinder petrol engines, a 2.4-litre unit with 170bhp, and the range-topping T5, producing 220bhp and 320Nm of torque. During 2006, a 180bhp five-cylinder diesel will also join the range.
Order books for the all new C70 will open in mid-September, immediately after the car receives its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where prices and specifications will also be announced. Deliveries to UK customers will begin early in 2006.
