The Volvo V50 Sportswagon has a greater emphasis on 'Sports' than 'Wagon'. Its wheel-at-each-corner stance and a hugely stiff bodyshell make for dynamic, sporty handling while, for maximum driver confidence, all Volvo V50s come with DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control), and ABS brakes with EBA (Emergency Brake-Assist) as standard.
A range of four and five cylinder engines provides ample power. The base 1.8-litre model boasts 125bhp, then there's an efficient and powerful 2.0-litre turbodiesel, with 136bhp. Next comes a 170bhp 2.4-litre five-cylinder petrol engine while, topping the range is the hugely powerful 2.5-litre turbo, the 220bhp T5, which comes with the option of Haldex all-wheel-drive to help transmit its power to the road.
