Banish rear seat arguments this summer

"Are we there yet?" "But he's on my side of the car." Ah, the summer holiday arguments of children and, well, let's face it, big children alike. But this summer they could be a thing of the past, thanks to a new Rear Seat Entertainment system, now available on the Volvo XC90, and soon available throughout the rest of the Volvo range.

Instead of bickering, spotting lorries or boring travel games (or perhaps as well as, let's not expect miracles), passengers can now also entertain themselves through two 5.8 inch widescreens professionally fitted into the rear of the front seat head restraints, capable of showing DVD films, computer games or camcorder films.

Available as a dealer fitted accessory, the Volvo RSE system also includes cordless RF headphones, 12v AV input for PlayStation One or Nintendo Game Cube compatibility, and a ten-disc CD/DVD player in the boot - which can play CDs through the headphones independently of what's being played through the XC90's regular audio unit.

The screens themselves are vertically tilt adjustable, to compensate for changes in front seat angle, and have soft-touch surrounds, while the system also incorporates sockets for rear passengers to listen to the car's standard radio, CD or (if fitted) Mini-Disc unit. A roof mounted, single screen, single disc Rear Seat Entertainment system will be launched in October.

Available through selected dealers with a four-hour installation time and three-year warranty, the Rear Seat Entertainment system is available for a competitive £2,500 at participating retailers. The later single screen option is expected to be offered at £2,000.
