HOW TO GUIDES

EPISODE 1 - HOW TO DRIVE A TANK
In the first of our 'How To' episodes, resident car nut Matt Carroll heads to the rolling fields of Gloucestershire to learn how to drive a 52-tonne Chieftain Tank. Join him behind the controls as he wrestles with this lumbering behemoth, and see what happens when he takes on an abandoned road car (we'll let you guess who wins).

It's the most extreme vehicle Matt's ever handled, but he still manages to pick up a few surprising lessons about everyday road driving…

EPISODE 2 - HOW TO BE A RALLY DRIVER
In this episode, Matt heads to the Phil Price Rally School in Wales to get a crash course in rally driving – though luckily instructor Phil Price is on hand to make sure he doesn't the 'crash' part too literally. Matt quickly discovers that rally driving is a lot more skilful than it looks, and requires three key skills that are also crucial in road driving: braking, car control and finesse at the wheel. But can Matt show any of his newfound finesse as he takes on an unforgiving forest rally stage?

EPISODE 3 - HOW TO DRIVE GREENER
Even the most passionate car enthusiast can have a conscience, and in this clip Matt works on his green credentials by finding out how better driving and car maintenance can reduce your fuel emissions – and save you money. To help him out, he meets Ed Dearnley from the Society for Clean Air, who shows how a few simple steps can make a massive difference to the amount of fuel you use. Then, to prove responsible motoring can still be fun, Matt takes a peek at the sexy new Lexus hybrid.

EPISODE 4 - HOW HOW TO EXTREME OFFROAD
Love mucking around in mud? Then you'll definitely want to join Matt Carroll as he heads to Xtreme Off-Road, in Wells, to tackle some seriously steep climbs, slippery descents and a variety of tricky obstacles. Don't let the squeals of girlish excitement fool you though, as Matt has a more serious mission here: to find out just how much off-road driving can teach you about driving on the road. With that in mind, he enlists the help of head instructor Julian Seyer and heads for the nearest mud slide.

EPISODE 5 - HOW TO BUY A USED CAR

The stereotype of the car salesman as con artist may be a bit unfair these days, but you still need to be canny if you want to avoid being sold a lemon. In this episode Matt is joined by Craig Thomas from 4Car, who gives some expert insight into the sort of things you should be looking out for when shopping for a used car. Matt then gets an insider's perspective by discussing selling and buying tactics with a genuine used car salesman, before heading off to put his knowledge into practice…

EPISODE 6 - HOW TO RE-PASS YOUR DRIVING TEST
Most of us like to think of ourselves as 'good drivers', but could you pass your test if you had to take it again? A surprising number of us couldn't, as Matt Carroll discovers when he heads to the Mini Driving School in Surrey for his first driving lesson in over ten years. As an experienced instructor takes him through basics such as road awareness and the highway code, he quickly realises how easy it is to forget the rules when you drive every day. The question is – is he still fit to hold a licence?
