Battlefront is an online/on-telly Channel 4 project starring a crew of 14-21-year-olds with big ideas, big hearts and big ambitions. 18-year-old blogger, Kaya Cheyanne, is on a mission to unveil the widespread use of airbrushing in the fashion and beauty world.
"So what's been going on with the natural beauty campaign, I hear you ask? Since London Fashion Week I've been arranging the Battlefronts launch, which is coming up in December/January - watch the video of me at LFW.
I've also been interviewing teenagers, many of which have suffered from conditions, such as depression and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and all of whom have felt pressure from the media industries to conform to an 'ideal body standard'.
Gaining their views and perspectives on the campaign was so informative. While speaking to the Girl Guiding UK, I uncovered this statistic:
"Girlguiding UK's 2009 study, the Girls Attitudes Survey. The survey revealed that 50 per cent of 16-21 year old girls would consider having cosmetic surgery to alter the way they look, while 42 per cent of 11-16 year olds admitted to watching their diet."
Pretty shocking, eh? It made me realise how much hard work there is left to do. So, I've been in contact with Hany Farad, a professor of Computer Science at Falmouth University. He leads a science image group who focus on digital manipulation, image analysis and human perception. I'm meeting him soon to hear his views on the campaign, as he's spoken out before about the digital enhancement of women.
With the help of Hany and my new friends and supporters I've met over the last few months, I hope to push the campaign forward in the next few weeks. I can't wait to launch my 'Real images, Real People' stamp - thank you to 4Beauty for being the first media outlet to pick up on it.
