Materials to make a bow
Step 1

Haberdashery shops often have offcuts - leftover pieces of material - that are sold really cheaply. These offcuts can form the basis of your bow.

Fold the material
Step 2

Your piece of material needs to be rectangular in shape. Fold each end into the centre of the material.

Fold the corners of the material
Step 3

Fold the corners in on themselves to create an envelope so the rough edges aren't on display.

Hold the bow in the centre
Step 4

Hold the fabric in the centre and scrunch it up. You should see a bow shape forming.

Gaffer tape the ends of the wire
Step 5

To give the bow a 3D effect you need to gaffer-tape some wire into the centre of the bow so you can manipulate the bow into the right shape. Measure how much wire you will need and cut three lengths of it. Bunch the pieces of wire together and gaffer-tape the ends.

Place wire in the centre of the material
Step 6

Fold the material back out to its original size. Tape the strips of wire to the centre of the fabric.

Secure bow
Step 7

Tear a thin, long piece of the fabric off from the rest of the material, and use it to secure the centre of the bow.

Stitch the bow on to the jumper
Step 8

Stitch the bow in place. If you're not used to sewing, take your time and don't rush. If it doesn't work, just unpick the stitching and do it again.
