Smudge-Proof Eye Make-Up

In her regular column Ask Lauren, 4Beauty resident make-up artist Lauren Dunn gives expert beauty advice.

How can you make your eye make-up look fresh all day without having to re-apply? I only use eyeliner and mascara - it looks good at the start of the day when I go to work, but by the afternoon it all seems to have gone south and lies in creases round the eyes. Rhona

A great product to keep your eyes looking fresh all day is Laura Mercier Eye Basics. It's a cream base that you apply with your fingers so it's very quick to apply and dries like a powder, so it won't crease on your eyelids. It comes in lots of different neutral shades and instantly evens out the colour of your eyelid, making your eyes look fresher.

To stop your eyeliner smudging, I would suggest using a long-lasting liquid eyeliner, such as Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Liquid Eyeliner - it has amazing staying power. If you don't want to use a liquid liner, use a good quality eye pencil or gel eyeliner. I can highly recommend Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil, which stays put all day long.

Another great long-lasting eye product is the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. You apply it with an eyeliner brush or angled brush and it lasts all day. To find out more about make-up brushes, watch our video guide to eye and lip brushes.

And finally when it comes to mascara, think about using a waterproof one - they are more difficult to remove at the end of the day, but they don't tend to smudge.
